Seventy students from years 8 to 12 who are part of the Concert Winds senior band and the College Choir were chosen to take part in the Australian International Music Festival from July 3 to 10.

They were from the only WA school that took part and were involved in rehearsals, workshops and performances at venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour, City Recital Hall, St Mary’s Cathedral and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

School music and performing arts director Ellen Broderick said this was one of several events the students had been preparing for this year.

“Choir students rehearse weekly and the concert band twice a week on a number of pieces in preparation for college events, competitions and external performances,” she said.

She said the tour was important to build teamwork and promote musical excellence.

“It was also a cultural experience because they met students from across the world and had the opportunity to perform in Australia’s most iconic concert hall at the Sydney Opera House,” she said.
