Public painting sessions to finish mural at Woodvale Library

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

CREATIVE members of the community are needed to complete a seven-metre long mural that has a permanent new home at Woodvale Library.

The Yellagonga Community Mural depicts a scene from Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup featuring local trees, plants and wildlife.

However, the work is only half completed.

The mural was created as part of The Artful Gene Project – a joint international exhibition of artworks by Alfred John Bamford (1849-1929) and his great grandson, and current Joondalup resident, Michael Bamford.

The exhibition was recently housed at Joondalup Art Gallery (JAG) and while there, the mural slowly began to take shape thanks to gallery visitors and JAG members.

Bamford, who is overseeing the mural project, will be at Woodvale Library this month to help artists keen to contribute to the work. Two public painting sessions will be held on April 16 and 30, from 10am- noon.

No bookings or previous painting experience are required.
