THE Australian Red Cross Blood Service is concerned the race that stops the nation could also stop vital blood donations.

Edgewater Blood Donor Centre needs more donors to roll up their sleeves on Melbourne Cup day, November 3 – there are almost 90 appointments still available.

“Currently our appointments are only half full,” Blood Service spokeswoman Jessica Willet said.

“Our donor centre has plenty of TVs, which means you can still catch the race while saving lives.”

Edgewater Blood Donor Centre will be open from 7am to 7pm on Melbourne Cup day.

To donate, call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au.
