The Breakwater in Hillarys apprentice chef has recipe for success

The 23-year-old won the Quiet Achiever Award at the Hospitality Group Training’s (HGT) annual awards last week.

Ms Andrewartha has worked at the venue for a year-and-a-half and was employed after finishing her traineeship in February.

“It is a great place to be able to get a taste of everything,” she said.

“I love my job (and) love the people I work with; it’s a great creative outlet.”

She said winning the award was great recognition.

“It was really unexpected; it was amazing,” she said.

HGT general manager Iain McDougall said the group provided numerous opportunities for young people.

“With the current worldwide chef skill shortages, it is a reminder that a chef qualification is a passport to anywhere in the world,” he said.

“The HGT awards highlight the importance of apprentice chefs in the workforce and applaud the efforts of employers.”
