BURNS Beach resident Frank Laval will pedal his way through October to raise funds for research into childhood cancers.

Mr Laval said he planned to pedal at least 500km this month and raise $500 for the Children’s Medical Research Institute in its Great Cycle Challenge.

“It’s a great cause – I’ve done it twice before,” he said.

“It’s a nice way to get into riding, to get myself back on the bike in warmer months.”

There are about 7300 participants across Australia who have already raised about $1 million.

Organisers hope this year they will collectively raise more than $3 million.

“Great Cycle Challenge is a fantastic way for everyday Australians to undertake a fun personal challenge, while raising funds that are urgently needed for research on all types of cancers in children,” event manager Greg Johnson said.
