School students learn from each other

It was the biggest group of guests the school had ever had from Fukui Senior High School in more than 10 years of the schools’ friendship.

Sacred Heart’s Japanese language students took small groups on tours of the college, followed by games and morning tea at Sorrento Beach.

“This annual exchange program is invaluable not only for the students from Fukui, who gain an insight into the daily life of an Australian teen, but for Sacred Heart students too as they get an opportunity to extend their communication skills by conversing in Japanese,” Japanese exchange facilitator Jenny Miraudo said.

“This is just one of three annual cultural exchanges arranged between us and each year. The affection and bond between our students is only strengthened.

“The Fukui Senior High School students are amazed by our coastal facilities as well as the size of the school and the range of subjects offered, such as home economics; a subject not normally studied in Japanese high schools.”

Sacred Heart will send 19 students to Fukui in April.
