NOT only have patrols started at Sorrento Beach but the club’s event and competition season is also under way.

Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club held an induction for nippers on Sunday before the under-9 to under-13 season starts this weekend.

This season, the nippers will sport new vests thanks to a Nine Perth’s sponsorship for 2015-16.

More than 600 Sorrento nippers will receive their green vests this weekend while the senior and master competitors will receive pink vests.

Last Sunday also marked the Classic Paddle canoeing event organised by the Royal Life Saving Society WA to help create awareness of the importance of water safety at the start of summer.

The club’s women’s open crew, men’s reserves and men’s masters crews competed in the approximately 12km row from the Narrows Bridge in South Perth to Gilbert Fraser Reserve in Fremantle.

The men’s reserves crew won while the masters’ crew came second and the women’s crew came fourth after leading most of the way.

The club’s ‘have a go’ rowing days will return to Saturday mornings from 7am starting this weekend. 17/10
