Seniors hold cupcake fundraiser day for RSPCA

Residents at Mercy Health's Mercyville residential home plan to make, ice, sell, share and eat dozens of the sweet treats for the annual Cupcake Day for RSPCA.

Service manager Janelle McFarlane said seniors at the home were huge animal lovers who, when they read about the fun fundraiser, wanted to help.

"They jumped on the opportunity to combine a morning tea for friends and family while helping to raise much-needed funds for RSPCA WA," she said.

"Even though animal cruelty is something we all find hard to think about, the majority of our residents have owned animals in their younger years."

Mercy Health WA manager Anita Ghose said residents were still active in their community and keen to support a good cause.

"We're very aware of how enriching animals are to the lives of our residents which is why Mercyville regularly hosts visits from animals," she said.

Cupcake Day for RSPCA is held nationally on August 17, but people can hold fundraising events throughout August.
