A SMOKE alert has been issued for the Joondalup area with a burn being conducted.
The parks and wildlife service is currently carrying out a prescribed burn in Yellagonga Regional Park, near Boas Avenue, Lakeside Drive and Wattlebird Loop.
A fire services spokesman said the burn was to protect the Joondalup Health Campus from potential fires in the summer.
The alert for Lakeside Drive, Burns Beach Road and surrounding areas was issued at 12.47pm, with the smoke expected to clear overnight.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has advised if the smoke is particularly thick, people should shut their doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
Motorists in the area should also take care, turn on their headlights and travel at appropriate speeds.
