CONSTRUCTION of a six-storey hotel in the Joondalup city centre started this morning with an official sod turning.

The $14.7 million Quest Apartment Hotel at 65 Boas Avenue, which was approved in December and will be developed by M/Group, will feature 90 rooms.

The rooms will include a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom options over five levels, as well as on-site parking, a business lounge and gym.

Mayor Albert Jacob, M/Group managing director Lloyd Clark and Quest Apartment Hotels general manager of growth James Shields were on site yesterday to mark the occasion.

“Over the past 20 years, the Joondalup city centre has flourished into a successful, highly-liveable commercial, civic and cultural destination,” Mr Jacob said.

“This marks another significant milestone in our journey as work begins on this outstanding development… which will further enhance the vitality and vibrancy of Joondalup”.

Mr Shields said Quest Joondalup would drive traffic and create further job opportunities for the growing community.

“Joondalup is home to over 13,000 businesses and has an estimated population of over 160,000 residents,” he said.

“This population is set to grow by 9.5 per cent between now and 2036, resulting in boosted investment in civic health, education and health infrastructure, creating an increased demand of premium short-term business accommodation.

“With approximately $1 billion worth of construction projects recently approved or underway, the area is experiencing substantial economic growth and is booming with new job opportunities.”

Construction is expected to be completed towards the end of next year.

Quest Joondalup is one of 12 new properties opening across Australia, New Zealand and the UK in the next two years, including the South Perth foreshore.

Applications to become the Joondalup franchisee are now open.
