PEOPLE grieving the loss of their partner can find support in a group being established in the northern suburbs.
Solace Grief Support Group, which operates a sharing and caring group in West Perth, will hold its first meeting at The Spiers Centre in Heathridge on April 12.
Facilitator Lynette Gillam said the group, which has operated for more than 30 years, was to provide support for people who have had a spouse or partner die “regardless of how they died, when or how long ago”.
“We welcome people to pop in for a chat to see if this is something that may be of value,” she said.
“From here, it is also hoped that we will then develop a caf group.”
The caf group is an additional social gathering for those in the group.
“It’s just another way of getting together with people who might be going through something similar to you,” Ms Gillam said.
Though she said the group often attracted older people, she encouraged younger people and those with young children to join.
Solace Grief Support Group will meet at The Spiers Centre at 6pm on the second Thursday of each month.
It also meets at City West Lotteries House, with a meet and greet at 1.30pm, before the sharing and caring session from 2pm to 4pm on the fourth Saturday of each month.
It also runs dinner and walking groups and four times a year has guest speakers before the meet and greet.
The group is able to expand to the northern suburbs thanks to a grant from Westpac Ellenbrook.
A further grant has also been received from Lotteywest to help set up a new website.
