Student Letitia Dose said they were planning the October 7 event to coincide with Mental Health Week and promote awareness, as well as provide a space for students to deal with stress and pressure.

“Our class has brainstormed a number of ideas that we believe promote the 2015 Mental Health theme of ‘Act, Belong and Commit’,” she said.

“As pressure builds leading up to exams, we see this week as an ideal time to help students take time for themselves and enhance their social and emotional well-being.”

The Landsdale resident said features would include a chill-out zone with beanbags, music and candles, plus a place to express with “warm fuzzies”, a mandala wall and a giant colouring-in page.

There will also be physical activities such as ping-pong, a basketball hoop, exercise equipment and AFL handball, and three foster dogs on site.

The students will raise awareness about mental health by providing stress tips and information flyers, and serve up a sausage sizzle and cupcakes.

The event will run from 12.30pm to 2.30pm next Wednesday, October 7. For more information on Mental Health Week, visit mhw.waamh.org.au.
