IT has been two weeks since three young flatback turtles were stolen from the Aquarium of WA in Hillarys and their whereabouts is still unknown.

An AQWA spokeswoman said the native Australian sea creatures were taken from an outdoor tank overnight on August 30.

Sergeant Darren Maccondruin said police were investigating CCTV footage and two alarm activations on the night.

He held concerns for the turtles’ welfare outside of professional care.

“When they’re removed from their environment, no one knows how they’re being cared for… it’s a concern and of great interest to us,” he said.

“We would encourage any members of the public with information to call Hillarys police station.”

The AQWA spokeswoman said the turtles were part of a research program and were not yet big enough to release. Anyone with information can call 9403 1000.
