Take Your Dog to Work Day: Mercy Place Edgewater taking part in June 23 initiative

Laura PondJoondalup Times

DOG owners are encouraged to ditch the guilty feeling experienced when leaving for work on June 23 and instead take their canine companion with them.

Aged care facility Mercy Place Edgewater is one of the workplaces participating in the annual Take Your Dog to Work Day, though border collies Dev and Nala will be found there most days.

Their owner, service manager Helen Fullarton, has been taking the doggy duo to work with her for the past year and said they were favourites among residents.

“Dev and Nala love to come to work with me and they have a hugely positive impact on our residents,” she said.

“The day itself will be a little bit out of the ordinary as we have a few special treats planned for them, including the baking of some doggie treats by residents and our kitchen staff – so it’s safe to say they will get a little more spoilt than usual.

“We know through various studies that animals improve the wellbeing of people and we are so pleased that Mercy Health is so supportive of the dogs coming to work with me each day, everyone just adores them and Mercy Place Edgewater wouldn’t be the same without them.”

The pair are also TV stars, having recently featured in an independent TV series, Top Jobs for Dogs.
