Warwick Greenwood Junior Cricket Club hoping for government help to fund nets

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

City of Joondalup councillors at last month’s meeting endorsed an application for funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.

The cricket club is requesting a new four-lane practise net at an estimated cost of $92,600.

The club would contribute $27,273. The City is applying for a $30,867 grant and plans to fund the remaining $34,460.

There are no funds listed in the five-year capital works program for this project, but if the grant is approved the City can consider the project in its mid-year budget review.

“Currently, Hawker Park is utilised by Warwick Greenwood Cricket Club and Warwick Greenwood Junior Cricket Club for game use. However, very limited training is undertaken at the venue due to a lack of training facilities,” a council report said.

If approved, the City will manage the project.

The Department of Sport and Recreation has $12 million allocated for the annual statewide grants.
