THE Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Club is calling for a refurbishment of its club and change rooms.
The Aussie Rules club has applied through the City of Joondalup for funding from the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).
The refurbishment of the Ellersdale Park facilities in Warwick would include enclosing an area to create a storeroom, removing an internal wall to increase the changerooms, minor alterations to the kitchen and installation of new lights, power outlets and plumbing.
The club has estimated this would cost $48,439, of which it will contribute $20,000.
It is requesting $14,219 each from the Department of Sport and Recreation and the City.
Councillors at last month’s meeting supported the club’s application and approved funding of $14,219 subject to the project receiving the full amount requested through the CSRFF.
It is also recommended the club manage the project in line with City guidelines.
The other three facility user groups – Warwick Greenwood Cricket Club, Mahjong Club and Wanneroo Shooting Complex – have no objections to the proposed refurbishment but have requested consultation before works begin.
In 2014, the City flagged an $850,000 refurbishment of the Ellersdale Park clubrooms, which is expected in 2021-22.
This was to include replacing the flooring, windows and doors, installing a new heating and cooling system, adding new security screens, rendering and painting the exterior, extending the storage area and refurbishing and extending the toilets and changerooms.
“Should the proposed project be successful for CSRFF funding and completed by the club, the works could impact on what works are required within this facility refurbishment,” a council document said.
“The City has held discussions with the club in regards to the proposed refurbishment in 2021-22 addressing most of, if not all of, the issues the club is proposing to address, however the club has chosen to continue with their proposed refurbishment.”
The Department of Sport and Recreation has $12 million allocated for the annual CSRFF state-wide grants.
This was the only application the City has received for the winter round.
