Warwick Grove: mangoes fly over shoplifting allegation

MANGOES are a popular choice in the warmer weather, but a recent Warwick Grove incident highlighted the fruit’s danger when it is in a tin and airborne.

Police have accused a 25-year-old alleged shoplifter of throwing a tin of mangoes at a security guard and shop manager as the pair attempted to detain him outside a supermarket this month.

Later, the Hocking man allegedly assaulted the security guard as they waited for police. He had allegedly stolen a trolley of items from the store on November 4.

Police allege he left the trolley and tried to flee the scene but became aggressive when the manager and guard restrained him.

He is accused of throwing a tin of mangoes, which did not strike anyone, before the pair escorted him to the basement carpark. There, he allegedly assaulted the security guard, stole a set of keys and fled. He was charged with criminal damage, stealing and assault.
