The one-day convoy is designed to help new boat owners experience Rottnest Island in a safe environment.

It includes useful information about travelling into and around the bays, the use of marine radios and emergency flares, a tour of a rescue boat and learning about the safety equipment.

The return journey will be made after dark so participants can see the lights of the mainland and the use of a red parachute flare at night.

There will be a barbecue at the end to revise the events of the day and for participants to get information about boating and moorings around Rottnest Island.

The Whitfords Sea Rescue vessels will escort the boats at all times.

Boats will depart from Mindarie and Ocean Reef marinas and Hillarys Boat Harbour. Cost is $60 per boat plus landing fees if applicable. To book, call Roger Howell on 0419 944 787 or go to www.whitfordssearescue.org.au.
