Winning baker has recipe for success

SCARBOROUGH’S Brighton Bakery continued its successful run at this year’s Perth Royal Show, coming third in the gourmet pastry-cooking category for their lamb and beef pies.

Owner and baker Vuong Dong was excited by the result and added his new red ribbon to the enormous collection draped around the walls of his bakery.

‘We are very happy and our customers are especially happy for us,’ Mr Dong said.

‘They always get excited and ask us if we have won, so it’s very much a community baker.’

Mr Dong said his bakery offered something for everyone, whether it was a nice warm pie on a cold winter morning, a sausage roll or a cake for those with a sweet tooth.

He attributed his success to using only the best quality produce and being involved in the baking process from start to finish.

We make everything ourselves using good quality pastry,’ he said.

‘I make everything with my staff, from the cooking of the meat to the pastry and baking ” I do it all and I think that makes the difference.’

Having run the successful bakery for 19 years and won awards for the last 18 years, Mr Dong said he looked forward to many more years of success.

The Perth Royal Show runs from September 28 to October 5.
