STUDENTS have created an artwork inspired by contemporary Aboriginal art as a parting gift to their Woodvale school.

The St Luke’s Catholic Primary School Year 6 students worked on the piece over six weeks with the help of artist Lauren Tarver.

As part of a university artist-in-residence program, Tarver shared her passion for design, painting and storytelling with the students, helping them to produce the artwork. School visual arts specialist Michelle Bryant said that students had found it an enriching experience.

“The students were part of the design process and benefited from Lauren’s vast understanding of painting techniques, visual layout and craftsmanship,” she said.

“They were inspired by her passion for the arts and worked diligently in every lesson.”

The work includes wooden discs bearing the name of each graduating student.
