EDGEWATER hotshot Calan Williams will race in the Australian Formula 3 Championship for 2017.
The 16-year-old was invited to Queensland last month to get his first taste behind the wheel of a F3 car by testing with the Gilmour Racing team.
“To say that Calan impressed the team would be an understatement,” team principal Errol Gilmour said.
Williams will be racing the Mercedes-powered Dallara F307 in the national class of the F3 Championship.
“I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to race Formula 3 with a team as professional as Gilmour Racing,” Williams said.
“I can’t wait to push myself at that level in a national series across some of the best tracks in Australia.
“I know this is going to be a great opportunity to take my racing to another level and I am excited about the challenge.”
Williams’ first round of competition will be at Sydney Motorsport Park from January 13 to 15.
The announcement follows William’s perfect final round of the Formula Ford state championship at Barbagallo Raceway.
