CAITLYN Ribbons’ sporting dream is a step closer after she was recently selected in the Australian Olympic Hopes team for sprint kayaking.

The St Stephen’s School Year 11 student, who has been kayaking since she was 12, was selected in the under-17s Australian women’s squad following strong performances in the National Team Trials competition in NSW in March.

“It has been my goal for a long time so it was a thrill to be selected in the national team,” she said. “I have trained very hard to get this far so I am very happy.”

The Duncraig student, who trains eight times a week, will travel to the Czech Republic in September to compete in the Olympic Hopes Regatta.

“I am very excited to wear the green and gold and have the chance to compete at a world class level,” Ribbons said.

The regatta is designed to expose future generations of Olympians to high-quality international race experience.
