Australian Pool Life Saving Championships: Breakers Swim Club members earn national selection

Craigie-based Breakers Swim Club members Jake Smith (19) and Madeline Thomson (16) were named in the national team, having both claimed a range of medals at the Melbourne meet last month.

They were two of three WA athletes to achieve Australian selection for their age group along with Perth City Swimming Club’s Maddi Howe (15).

They will attend a national training camp with various international competitions held throughout the year. WA coach Sarah Hamilton said the athletes’ hard work had paid off.

“We surprised other states with our skills and competitive nature,” she said.

Smith earned a spot in the under-19 team after claiming four silver and two bronze medals. Thomson made the under-19 squad, taking a silver and two bronze.
