TWO local swimmers will represent the nation in a number of international contests this year after strong performances at the Australian Pool Life Saving Championships.

Craigie-based Breakers Swim Club members Jake Smith (19) and Madeline Thomson (16) were named in the national team, having both claimed a range of medals at the Melbourne meet last month.

They will attend a national training camp with various international competitions held throughout the year. WA coach Sarah Hamilton said the athletes’ hard work had paid off.

“We surprised other states with our skills and competitive nature,” she said.

Smith earned a spot in the under-19 team after claiming four silver and two bronze medals. Thomson made the under-19 squad, taking a silver and two bronze.
