Blackney tames strong winds to win winter race at Hillarys Yacht Club

John BirdJoondalup Times

ON Sunday, most improved skipper for last season, Chris Blackney on Vaya Con Dios, opened his account in the first race of the Hillarys Yacht Club’s winter series with a win in division one.

The race had been postponed a week due to the predicted strong winds but the yachts still had to contend with a fairly strong north-westerly on Sunday.

It was a close race for second place with Sally Malay (Ian Walker) victorious over the fastest on the day, Deckchairs Overboard skippered by Neil Harrison.

Klaus Scheckel on Volant in division two had too big a start, recording a win over the fast finishing HYC Training (Chris Kelly) and Blue Chip (Deborah Fisk) who were second and third respectively.
