Team manager Sarah Hunter said this would be the first time a team from Australia had attended.

She said the event would provide the students with training and tournament experience, and enhance their techniques and skills.

“It a chance to mix with their counterparts from different cultural backgrounds to contribute to their development as individuals,” she said.

She said the girls were selected for their “passion, determination and hard work over the last year, with numerous medals locally and nationally”.

“They’ve represented WA for several years and have a lot of ambition in regards to their future judo careers,” she said.

Celeste Knoester, who has represented Australia, will join the girls as team coach.
