SEVERAL local clubs recently took part in a leadership program through the City of Joondalup.

Hosted at Craigie Leisure Centre, the Club Leaders Program aimed to help sporting communities share information, develop new skills, brainstorm ideas and make connections.

Ten participants were selected for the inaugural program through an expression of interest process, with clubs involved including the Joondalup Sports Association, Westside Football Club, Whitford Masters Swim Club, Northern Jaguars Netball Club, West Coast Calisthenics, Joondalup City Football Club, Woodvale Football Club and Joondalup Giants Rugby League Club.

Attendees took part in three interactive workshops and one-on-one sessions with sports psychologist Heather McGregor-Bayne that focused on their leadership skills, strategic planning, goal setting and overall vision for their clubs.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said it was important to provide clubs with the resources they needed to continue their important work.

“The Club Leaders program is designed to assist current and emerging local sporting club leaders to guide their clubs to a strong and sustainable future,” he said.

The City plans to run another round of the program in the future.
