YOUNGSTERS can tackle the game of rugby league at two come-and-try days in Heathridge.

The Joondalup Giants Rugby League Club will host the events for juniors from 2pm at Admiral Reserve on February 10 and March 11.

Junior president Gregg Pearson said the club catered for children from four years old, with teams from under-six to under-16s.

This now also includes girls’ under-14 and under-16 teams.

“With the National Rugby League’s inclusion of full contact women’s rugby league, NRLWA has added under-14 and under-16 girls to our regular winter schedule,” Pearson said.

“Previously girls could play mixed until under-12 then they were restricted to non-contact league tag.”

He said the open days would include league related games and activities including “tackle bags, training gear and plenty of balls to kick around”.

“There will also be a free sausage sizzle, meet the coaches and staff and also an opportunity to meet some of our first grade players,” he said.

“2018 is an exciting year for the Giants – we have some great sponsors coming on board and we have some amazing events planned for the club and specifically for the juniors.

“We encourage everyone to come along and talk to us and let the kids have a run.”

March 11 will also double as the club’s junior registration day.

The juniors will also be running the Bunnings barbecue in Joondalup on February 3.
