CALAN Williams will kick start his international racing career next month when he competes in the F3 Euroformula Winter Series with Fortec Motorsports.
The series consists of a two-day official Euroformula Open test on February 15 and 16 at the Spanish F1 Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya before heading to Williams’ first international race meeting at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, the venue of this year’s French F1 Grand Prix.
The series then rounds off with another two-day official test at Jerez back in Spain.
All Euroformula Open teams will be taking part in the Winter Series, with Williams representing Fortec along with Romanian driver Petru Florescu and American Yves Baltas.
The Edgewater 17-year-old will leave Australia to base himself in the UK early in February and will spend several days each week at the team base in Daventry training and practising on the simulator between the scheduled testing and racing.
“I am so excited about commencing my Formula 3 program in Europe and I can’t thank Mick Kouros and Fortec enough for the incredible opportunity that they have provided me”, he said.
“This is an amazing step forward in the huge transition between racing in Australia and stepping up to competing on the international stage in Europe and I intend to take this opportunity with both hands and show everyone what I can do.
“I am also very aware of how well Errol Gilmour, the team at Gilmour Racing and all at Australian Formula 3 have prepared me to make this step.”
