Following a break last week, the Premier League season resumed on Saturday, with the Marlins defeating Phoenix 16-12 at Bicton Pool.

The Marlins started well, scoring the opening goal and then leading the Phoenix 4-3 by quarter-time.

That advantage became 7-3 with three early goals in the second period, leading to an 8-5 buffer to the Marlins at half-time.

It was three goals to one in favour of North Coast in the third term, cutting the lead to the Marlins to just one goal heading into the final quarter.

An exciting final stanza followed, in which there were goals galore.

Melville scored first through Chloe Nella but the Phoenix kept in touch thanks to Jess Reynolds.

The next two goals had the Marlins steady to a 12-9 lead, which they stretched to a 16-12 victory by the final whistle.

Reynolds scored five goals for the Phoenix and Adelaide Garland four.

The Phoenix will finally get to string games together this Saturday by taking on the City Beach Bears at Beatty Park at 4pm.

It could prove to be a pivotal contest, with second spot on the line.
