Greg Hire: consistent basketball needed at Perth Wildcats in NBL

I would be surprised if someone hadn’t seen or heard about the incident between Brian Conklin and Damian Martin.

Much has been spoken about the whole ordeal but I’m definitely glad it’s over and we can continue improving as a team.

Townsville are one of the grittiest teams I’ve come across, young and full of confidence.

Their coach Shawn Dennis definitely has them playing the right brand of basketball.

Disappointingly for us, we were outworked, and outplayed up in Townsville last Wednesday.

For us not to match and exceed the effort level of our opposition is something that can’t happen again.

Even if you’re having an off shooting night or your opposition is hitting everything, you can still match them for effort.

For us, the rematch against Townsville on Friday was about using the emotion surrounding Damo in our favour.

We knew the stadium would be buzzing and the crowd would be ready to go so we wanted to channel their feelings.

While we had a good win, we were still inconsistent.

We need to continue working to play a complete game.

On another note, it’s been great to see Damo around the club with his positive demeanour. Even though he’s on the sidelines, he will still provide us with leadership and hopefully sooner than later our captain will be back on the court.
