HILLARYS Yacht Club opened its doors to the public on Sunday morning and were inundated with visitors to try their hand at sailing on the annual Discover Sailing Day.
Blessed with a perfect sunny morning and a light breeze, 22 keelboats made an average of four trips each to cater for 250 children and adults while more than 100 new sailors tried their hands sailing the smaller dinghies.
Under the watchful eye of the skipper, guiding a 34-foot yacht between dinghies, other keelboats and the Rottnest ferry was no mean feat for a youngster barely able to see over the steering wheel.
