Hillarys Yacht Club: Hard Evidence shines

John BirdJoondalup Times

IN contrast to the week of blustery weather, bright sunshine on Sunday encouraged sailors to try their luck on a shortened course off Hillarys Yacht Club.

In a variable south-easterly of 4 knots, skippers found the conditions challenging and frustrating, sometimes drifting backwards with the current.

Although he has won many races, Des Riley on Hard Evidence achieved a rare double in division one of first and fastest with Sandrine (Ian Conboy) and Mulberry (Mark Pitt) filling the minor places.

In division two, the HYC Youth Squad were only 39 seconds off achieving a first and fastest too, but had to settle for second place behind Show Me (Bruce Ellery) with Helga (Mark Taylor) third.

Catabatic, sailed by Rob Bills, was fastest in division three but second to Chris Kelly on Pandora.

The final three races of the winter series will be in August before a break and the summer season opening day scheduled for October 8.

Hillarys Yacht Club will hold its AGM on Sunday morning.
