Hillarys Yacht Club sailor wins with Xtreme measures

John BirdJoondalup Times

AFTER two recent race cancellations due to strong winds, Hillarys Yacht Club crews welcomed the moderate 10 knot south-westerly breeze on Sunday.

With his boat Hard Evidence out of action after being dis-masted racing in extremely strong winds in December, Des Riley sailed club boat Xtreme in division two for an emphatic win over Tony Brooke on Tropical Itch and HYC Training (Chris Kelly). Covert Operation (Bart Brouwer and Graham Atkinson) was fastest, taking line honours by almost six minutes.

In division one, fastest boat on the day Surfer Rosa (Roric Smith) made a costly error in rounding the wrong mark and in retracing her steps slipped to fourth on handicap.

It was enough for second over the line, Mulberry (Mark Pitt), to claim victory on handicap ahead of Perle and Lamotrek (John Akers).
