Volant, Helga and Quicksilver beat into strong winds after the division two start.

WITH a backdrop of colourful spinnakers flown by the elite offshore yachts competing in the annual Pot of Gold event hosted by Hillarys Yacht Club, the local sailors made their own Dash for Cash.

The two separate events held last Saturday in very strong winds brought the yachts together off Sorrento and Scarborough providing a spectacle for the onshore viewers.

What a dash for Sally Malay (Ian Walker) in division one finishing half an hour before second placed Whispering Jack (Bruce Bradford) with Ian Holder on Bad Habits coming in third.

“He who would be last shall be first” came true for Sheer Magic (Tony Waymouth) in division two when finishing eighth over the line and first on handicap.

Equal second on handicap were Geoff and Rita James on Panache and Mark Taylor on Helga.

Greg Hill sailing a UFO 34 Not Negotiable was fastest.

Neil and Wendy Harrison on Deckchairs Overboard with a perfect start and a double reefed mainsail never looked back scoring a first and fastest in division three.

Echo (Tony Hanavan) was second and Salamander skippered by new owner George Nichols was third.
