Hillarys Yacht Club sailors see action even in light winds

John BirdJoondalup Times

AFTER the cancellation of two winter races at Hillarys Yacht Club because of storms, the fine day on Sunday with a light south-easterly breeze of only five to eight knots should have made for some happy sailors.

Instead, the action on the water was intense and continued into the protest room for two crews before the final results were decided.

Frustrated skippers tried to pick the wind shifts only to find themselves in a windless hole and overtaken by the more experienced and wily crews.

In division one, first place was awarded to Hard Evidence skippered by Des Riley ahead of the fastest yacht Mulberry (Mark Pitt) and Deckchairs Overboard with Neil Harrison at the helm.

In division three, jib and main only, Brett Bailey, who slipped Sensei last week, celebrated the clean bottom with a win.
