Kerr eyes quick return to Falcons midfield

He was written off earlier this month with a crippling back injury.

"Originally I was due to have back surgery," he told the Falcons faithful at a lunch before the West Perth-Claremont game at Arena Joondalup on Saturday.

"But I pushed that back because my back was feeling pretty good.

"I spoke to the physios and doctors last week at the Swans game and asked if it would be OK to start training a bit" and they were happy for me to do that. So as of Tuesday I can start running and joining in on the group.

"It is a bit of a week-to-week thing. I will slowly increase contact and hopefully, best-case scenario, I will be back playing in about a month."

Fellow premiership team-mate Jordan Jones had hamstring surgery more than three weeks ago after tearing the tendon in the muscle.

He can start some weights and swimming after coming off crutches last week.

"I could possibly be back by the end of the season but I would have to tick all the boxes," he said.

Guest lunch compere and former Falcons chief executive GerryO'Dea recalled smooth negotiations to recruit Kerr and Jones from Victoria.

"It was a credit to their managers and to them,"O'Dea said.
