MORE than 200 little tackers aged six to 12 years of age turned up to try their hand at sailing at Hillarys Yacht Club recently.

The backdrop to the free September 17 event was the replica Duyfken ship, which was moored at the Hillarys Marina until September 27 prior to sailing to Dirk Hartog Island for the 400th anniversary of the landing by Dirk Hartog in the Eendracht.

Run last Saturday morning by nationally qualified instructors from Hillarys Yacht Club, the tackers program is the entry level prior to sailing in various sized dinghies such as the popular Optimist, Laser and Tasar.

The next free opportunity to try sailing in dinghies, or even keelboats for adults will be Discover Sailing Day on October 23 from 9am to 1pm.
