I DON’T usually specifically credit one individual on the team but for this week’s Perth Wildcats NBL article I’m going to go down that route.

Tom Jervis is his name, and there’s no way you will miss the big fella. Standing at 211cm tall, Tom provides a formidable force on both ends of the court.

Altering the opposition’s shots in defence is his specialty, but on the offensive end, Tom’s relentless attitude on the glass makes a big impact.

While his performances on the court haven’t gone unnoticed, it’s his character that needs to be exemplified.

Tom and I grew up playing alongside and against each other. We had a great friendship, shared a similar sense of humour and represented WA at national championships.

I always noticed he was one of the more compassionate guys on the team. He was willing to sacrifice his own game to make others better around him.

With the addition of Nate Jawai to the team this year, we knew his minutes would be reduced.

He hasn’t complained; instead he’s continued to get better and contribute to our team.

It is those little sacrifices that make a good team into a championship team. We are privileged to have such a talented individual coming off the bench.

Even more so, we’re privileged to be alongside an individual who shows such character and represents the Wildcats’ values in the best possible way.
