Staff WriterJoondalup Times

And ECU Joondalup faces a crucial away game against Floreat Athena, the Jacks needing a win after losing to Stirling last weekend.

At Percy Doyle Reserve last Saturday, Sorrento paid tribute to two club identities in spirited fashion with a 2-1 win over the defending champions.

The club wore a Scottish-inspired strip for former player and manager Archie McLellan, who died last week. They also honoured former junior coach Toby Levy, who died of brain cancer.

Jordan Dodd scored for the hosts in the 60th minute, before Ryan Pearson nailed the winner with just a minute of regular time remaining.

Sorrento captain Daryl Platten thought the victory was fitting.

_“It’s been a sad week for the club, and I know some of the guys have shed tears,” he said“Even though the first half was a bit poor I think the boys lifted to farewell a friend.”

At Macedonia Park, ECU Joondalup capitulated against Stirling, which handed the Jacks a 3-0 defeat. The visitors were only a goal down as the game reached the 80-minute mark, but conceded goals in the 81st and 83rd minutes.
