NRL WA: Joondalup Giants under 13s win title

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

JOONDALUP Giants were too strong for the Rockingham Sharks in the under 13s rugby league grand final recently.

Playing at Dorrien Gardens, the Heathridge-based rugby league club convincingly won the match 44-8 to be crowned the 2017 premiers on September 10.

The Giants dominated from the opening kickoff and kept the scoreboard ticking over all first half to go into the half-time break leading 24-0.

The second half was more even, however the Giants continued to play well to have the game won with 10 minutes to go.

A converted try right on full-time was the icing on the cake for Jason McDonald’s team.

Junior president Gregg Pearson said the team showed “great running across the field… playing a mature and controlled game of league”.

“All the players played really well, with standout performances by man of the match Zachary Tetai-Boyce, Kelvin Luifolua, and NRLWA under-13s player of the year Ryan McGloin,” he said.
