Ocean Reef sail to victory

John BirdJoondalup Times

ON Sunday, the final three races of the North Coast Series between Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Hillarys Yacht Club were held off Mullaloo in a light, fluky breeze.

Taking a progressive score ahead of Hillarys into the day, Ocean Reef never looked back from the first race despite Whispering Jack from Hillarys being first and fastest in division one and again in race three.

The depth of Ocean Reef showed, with Hot Gossip and Whim A Way consistent placegetters in all races and Leda and Stump Jumper chipping in. Perle had a win and Bad Habits was consistent for Hillarys to help their cause in division one, but in division two Ocean Reef again came to the fore.

Feelin Free and Petite Bateau were placed in all three races for Ocean Reef and the only placegetter for Hillarys was Catabatic with a win, a second and a third.

The final result after 10 races in the series over summer was a resounding win to Ocean Reef, regaining the trophy it won in 2017 after Hillarys won in 2018. The champion yacht in division one was Whim A Way skippered by Mick Caulfield, with Alan Peacham on Feelin Free and Kevin Meta on Volant tying for first in division two.
