Ocean Reef SHS squad excels and wins Singa Cup

More than 50 teams from across Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines competed in Singapore’s Premier International Youth Football Tournament this month.

Ocean Reef football director Gavin Falco-Brown said their U16 squad qualified as winners in the group stage against anza Football Academy Singapore, AC Milan Academy, Ceres La-Salle Academy Philippines and Scottish International Academy India, scoring 18 goals and conceding 1.

He said they won the quarter- final against Manila’s Pilipinas Dragons Football Club 4-0 to progress to the semi-finals against anza Football Academy Singapore.

“The final score saw Ocean Reef running out 5-2 winners to set up a final against SCC Soccer Academy Singapore,” Falco-Brown said.

“With the championship up for grabs, Ocean Reef began playing the football they were known for during the tournament, winning 2-0 to be crowned 2015 champions.”

He said the squad’s stellar performance at the tournament had not gone unnoticed.

“Ravi Daswani, the director of RD Global Sports Football Agent for Asia and Spain, was impressed by the standard of our play and by some of the individuals in our squad,” he said.

“He selected Sam Pollard as a player of the tournament and will be taking Sam to Spain in January for trials with La Liga clubs.

“Ravi also extended an invitation for Ocean Reef Senior High School to compete in the Mediterranean International Cup in Barcelona, the number one world youth football tournament.”
