LOCAL Perth Wildcats vice-captain Greg Hire has been looking to put half an hour extra of fitness into his daily schedule this month, but it doesn’t relate to his basketball training.

The Joondalup Wolves product has been in a battle against the West Coast Fever’s Courtney Bruce as part of the Fit30 for Youth Focus challenge.

The pair has committed to an extra half hour of exercise each day in September, while seeing who can raise the most funds for mental health advocate Youth Focus.

Both pro athletes are Youth Focus ambassadors.

Edgewater resident Hire (28) added yoga to his schedule, teasingly saying whatever Bruce raised, he would “raise a dollar more”.

Bruce planned to run, row and take up yoga pilates, with an aim of raising more than $1000.

“When I started as an ambassador four years ago, the emphasis was on breaking down the stigma around mental health,” she said. “Now there is more a focus on talking about mental health issues, including in the netball world.”

Hire also raises funds for Youth Focus through his charity www.stitchintime.org.au.
