Players rewarded for focus

There was a risk they could have taken the game lightly against an out-of-form side, having played some strong teams in recent rounds.

But the way they attacked the game from the outset was really pleasing.

We left Shane Nelson out of the line-up because of a niggling ankle injury. He wanted to play but I had to pull rank and tell him he was having a rest.

He will return against Swan Districts this week.

Rohan Kerr is an outside chance to come back into the league team after getting through a reserves clash without issue last weekend.

While we thought a back injury had ended his season, doctors have told him he can't do any further damage to it if he keeps playing.

So we will take it from week to week; he might tweak it and be put out of action or he might continue playing without any pain.

For this weekend, we have to decide if he's ready to return to the league football pace, having not played for some weeks.

We will err on the side of caution with Nick Rodda and keep him out for a second week with shoulder bruising he suffered in the East Perth game.

We can expect a tough encounter against Swan Districts, as our recent contests have proven.

They got over the top of us in the final part of the game to beat us by two points the last time we faced them.

Our forward 50 entries were particularly disappointing on that occasion.

So as much as we thought Swans were good, there were mistakes we made that cost us a win.

We'll look to rectify that at Arena Joondalup on Saturday afternoon.
