Joondalup returned from Kalgoorlie 89-76 victors against the Goldfields Giants on Saturday.

Veteran big man Damian Matacz produced a vintage performance with 20 points, shooting at 83 per cent from the field and 10-13 from the free throw line in just over 12 minutes of court time.

The absence of starter Trian Iliadis allowed Jordan Wellsteed to play extra minutes.

Wellsteed made the most of the challenge, taking 18 points and 11 rebounds, while adding three assists and two steals.

The women’s team, which had a bye last week, faces a big test against Rockingham as they hunt for their second win of the season.
