SBL: Joondalup Wolves look to keep top spot safe against Goldfields Giants

Staff WriterJoondalup Times

THE top-placed Joondalup Wolves will have the best idea yet of where they stand in comparison to second-placed Geraldton after the upcoming weekend of State Basketball League action.

The Wolves have played an extra game than Geraldton but the Buccaneers have a double header this weekend that will put the sides on equal games played.

Joondalup has one clash against cellar dwellers the Goldfields in Kalgoorlie on Saturday.

Two victories for Geraldton and a triumph for Joondalup would put both sides on equal wins, but the Wolves would most likely remain on top with a superior percentage.

The side is coming off a 100-74 win over the East Perth Eagles at Morley Recreation Centre last Friday.

Jalen Billups led scoring with 26 points, while guard Brian Sullivan surprisingly led the rebound count with 11.

Rob Huntington continued his strong recent form with 18 points.

In the women’s clash, the Lady Wolfpack put an end to its 10-game losing streak with an 80-59 defeat of the winless Eagles.
