SBL: Joondalup Wolves shoot for top spot against Cockburn Cougars

The Cougars have dropped just one of seven contests to be No. 1 after five rounds.

The Wolves have won four of five games, having not yet had a double-header round, but will go to the peak of the competition with a better winning percentage should they beat Cockburn at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Joondalup easily accounted for Perry Lakes 93-62 at home last Saturday. The Wolves won every period with Trian Iliadis hitting five triples on his way to a game-high 23 points.

Bobby Evans took a team-high 10 rebounds, while Damian Matacz led the team for assists with four.

In the women’s league, the fourth-placed Wolves are expected to beat 10th Cockburn on Friday. The Lady Wolfpack escaped with an exciting 68-67 win over Perry Lakes.

Joondalup held a nine-point lead at half time but a third-period comeback from the Hawks had them hit the front by a point heading into the final term.

Star Wolves recruit Klara Wischer returned a double-double for the third week straight, taking a team-high 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Nikita Martin dished a game-high six assists.
