SBL: Joondalup Wolves take territory

The Saturday contest at Joondalup Basketball Stadium ends a run of four-straight home games, the Wolves spending the next three weeks on the road.

Joondalup snatched top spot from Cockburn after defeating the Cougars by 13 points on Friday.

The top-two contest had the Wolves jump to a nine-point lead at the end of the first term, leaving the visitors playing catch up in the 108-95 victory at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Joondalup’s Trian Iliadis had one of his best games of the year shooting at 62.5 per cent from the field to notch a team-high 19 points.

The guard added six assists and four steals in a standout display.

Teammate Reece Maxwell, whose game time is increasing week on week, put in his strongest performance of 2016 with 15 points.

Centre Kevin Davis took 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Cockburn’s Gavin Field hit a game-high 28 points.

In the women’s contest, Joondalup easily accounted for the Cougars 82-69.

The Wolves’ Nikita Martin and Klara Wischer top scored with 19 points each.

Amy Kidner impressed with a 13-point and 11-rebound double-double. Shani Amos was busy on the floor hitting 13 points to go with six assists and four steals.

The Wolves are fourth in the women’s league and should win against the bottom-placed Slammers on Saturday.
