SWIMMING WA will hold its annual Australia Day Swim at Sorrento Beach on Saturday, January 26.
The swim will be round 8 of the SWA Open Water Swimming Series and is traditionally the biggest participation round.
Hillarys MLA Peter Katsambanis will officially get proceedings underway about 7.30am, with a record number of participants expected.
Last year the Sorrento round attracted a record-breaking 1074 participants and registrations are already almost at that figure for this year’s event.
Olympian Blair Evans will chaperone the next generation of WA swimmers, as seven to nine-year-olds try open water swimming for the first time in a special splash and dash course designed for them.
Other distances include 500m, 1.25km, 2.5km, 5km and 10km.
New Town Toyota will give away beach balls on the day and there will be free beach activities, including beach volley ball, totem tennis, inflatable obstacle course and giveaways.
