A JOONDALUP lifeguard team recently won top honours in the 2018 Pool Lifeguard Challenge.

Hosted by Royal Life Saving WA and the Leisure Institute of WA, the challenge tests skills across all aspects of being a pool lifeguard such as observation, teamwork, fitness, first aid and resuscitation.

This year’s challenge had 21 teams including two from HBF Arena, with Tim Hulley, Lewis Downes, Isabel Franzoni and Kieran Lawrenson winning the prize.

Team captain Franzoni has been a lifeguard at HBF Arena for 15 years and is a familiar face to regular visitors to the venue.

This was her second Pool Lifeguard Challenge but her first win.

“After finishing in the middle of the field last year we were keen to come back and do better,” she said.

“I’m so proud of the team and consider myself lucky to work with them every day.”
